We have recently opened a new facility dedicated to the production of patient-specific surgical guides, created from individual MRI / CAT data and built on SLS and SLA machines. I am working with the Medical Production Management teams, both from here and Belgium Headquarters, to set up the machines and all related post-processing equipment, validate procedures according to ISO requirements, and initiate production and shipment of finished products.

I was brought in here to run the FDM 400mc on a temporary basis while their operator was on leave, but I ran it so efficiently that they kept me on long-term. I saw a lot of potential for prototype business and tried to institute initiatives to raise awareness of the technology throughout the parent organization, but unfortunately didn't receive the level of committment to the operation that I had hoped for.

Rapid Prototyping system manufacturer: My responsibilities included the independent operation and scheduling of the company’s prototyping and 3D printing systems (FDM, PolyJet) at a remote location, hardware and software testing, and pre-processing and repair of STL files to be built. I created some of the companies’ most popular samples and trade show models. I worked hand-in-hand with many of our customers, providing both telephone and on-site support and training to help them utilize their technology to its fullest potential, and collaborating with them, or identifying other vendors, to define and develop new applications which would help to expand the use of our products into new markets. In addition, I assisted our Sales team by helping to determine the application of the company’s products to potential customers, building benchmark parts, and installing, maintaining, and dismantling the corporate booth and machines at Trade Shows.

Rapid Prototyping system manufacturer: I was primarily hired to establish and maintain a new Midwest warehousing and distribution center for the company’s proprietary consumables, but I was also trained on how to operate their LOM prototyping systems. Once I had the consumables operation running smoothly and efficiently, I was usually able to complete these duties in the morning and focus on the machine operation for the rest of my day. I became fascinated with the technology and devoted more of my time to this function, eventually becoming the main operator. Because of my knowledge and dedication I was soon promoted to Associate Applications Engineer, where I worked with current customers to troubleshoot problems and potential clients to build benchmark parts or perform demonstrations.
