I have had a wide range of experiences and opportunities during my 20+ years with the US Army. I initially trained as an academic internist and completed IM residency and a general medicine fellowship. As an internist I was core clinical faculty at an IM residency training site and led the medical center's hospitalist service. During that time I deployed to Afghanistan twice as a battallion surgeon and received the Combat Medical Badge for rendering care under fire and the Bronze Star. Mid-career I retrained as an ophthalmologist and have since led Ophthalmology Services at two medical centers in the United States and been a Chief of Refractive Surgery at a third medical center in Europe. I have published widely on topics ranging from ICL surgery to PTSD and received the Army's "A" designator for clinical expertise within my field.
