Sound/Audio Support • Designs and/or executes sound system requirements for Visiting Artists and in-house classical, jazz, gospel and world music, theatrical and dance productions and lectures, meetings and panels.• Sets up and appropriately utilizes various sound equipment and tools such as analog and digital mixing consoles, front of house and onstage monitor speaker systems, various types of microphones, wireless frequency coordination, communication systems, multi-track recording systems, Mac and Windows based computers and associated audio software, internal and external dynamics (compressors, gates, limiters) and time based effects (reverb, delay) and equalizers.• Determines sound system layout and cabling, speaker selection, types and locations of microphones to be used and creates input/output assignment documentation for front of house and monitors.• Performs sound system checks prior to performance.• Operates or oversees operation of equipment during rehearsals and performances.• Monitors performances and responds to unanticipated as well as predetermined requirements for specific sound or sound reinforcement.• Produces live quality archival recordings of most in-house and occasional Visiting Artist events and mixes down multi-track shows for Ensembles.• Provides direction to student and union work crews in sound system set-up, operation and removal.Lighting Support • Designs or executes lighting designs for Visiting Artist productions, Hopkins Center Ensembles, campus student groups, lectures, meetings and panels.• Selects appropriate lighting instrumentation, gel and circuiting to meet production needs.• Participates in and/or oversees lighting focus.• Programs, operates or oversees operation of lighting consoles during rehearsals and performances.• Provides direction to student and union work crews in lighting system set-up, operation and removal.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States, Its Territories and Canada was founded in 1893 when representatives of stagehands working in eleven cities met in New York and pledged to support each others’ efforts to establish fair wages and working conditions for their members. Our union has evolved to embrace the development of new entertainment mediums, craft expansion, technological innovation and geographic growth.Today, our members work in all forms of live theater, motion picture and television production, trade shows and exhibitions, television broadcasting, and concerts as well as the equipment and construction shops that support all these areas of the entertainment industry. We represent virtually all the behind-the-scenes workers in crafts ranging from motion picture animator to theater usher.The IATSE has maintained and enhanced its position in the vanguard of the entertainment industry through effective rank and file empowerment, political engagement, and our dedication to grass roots organizing. Experience in both digital and analog equipment.• Designs and executes lighting design for performances and often operates lighting console during performances.• Competent in leading and directing a team as well as working independently in a fast-pasted, and demanding environment. Experience teaching sound recording technology and video production courses.
