Managed the engineering, procurement and fabrication of 10 off Lyons Feed Control Units (LFCU's) for the Iron Bridge Project in WA Australia. A$50-million

Managed the engineering and procurement of a mineral sands process plant for client Egyptian Black Sands Company (EBSC). EBSC is entity of the Egyptian military. Project included the engineering, procurement, construction and logistics required to move a 450 ton dredge from Rotterdam to the mine inland in Egypt. International team drawn from Australia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, USA, Singapore and Egypt.

Managed the engineering, procurement and construction of the Carrapateena Copper Mine in South Australia. (A$325-million).

Managed portion of Brine Concentrator Project for Downer EDI Engineering through EPCM Hatch Associates for Energy Resources Australia (Rio Tinto subsidiary)

Managed engineering scope of mineral sands project. Engineering apportioned between Mineral Technologies and SNC Lavalin for Grand Cote, Senegal, West Africa.

Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPC) of 2 Mtpa Iron Baron Ore Beneficiation Plant for OneSteel (now Arrium). Achievements include:(1) Project earned bonus from client OneSteel (Arrium) for early completion.(2) Project completed to 102% of Total Cost Estimate (TCE).(3) Plant reached nameplate within months of start up.

Managed portion of Yolla Mid Life Enhancement ("MLE") Project through Worley Parsons. Yolla is offshore oil & gas rig in Bass Strait of Australia jointly owned by Origin Energy and Australia Worldwide Exploration (AWE).

Provided consulting services assisting Carlton United Breweries (Foster's) with the transformation of its maintenance structure to fully outsourced model.

Consulted for and subsequently completed the Pulp Mill Expansion Project (>$400-million) for PaperlinX and Australian Paper. Project was "brown fields"and executed in a robust industrial environment within an operating pulp and paper mill and at a time of considerable political change in Australia. Despite construction difficulties, project exceeded its budgeted start up curve.

Through a talented and engaged leadership team, I led this 600,000 tpa integrated pulp and paper site for 5 years. (Annual revenue $450m, 85% revenue earned offshore, 600 employees, $50m pa maintenance budget, $20m pa capital budget.) Achievements include:(1) Team member that completed $400m expansion.(2) Rapid promotion from Technical Manager to Operations Manager to Mill Manager.(3) As Mill Manager, step changed the business by developing and implementing a transformation strategy that:(a) Regained the right to manage.(b) Outsourced maintenance and reduced maintenance costs by $10m pa or 17%.(c) Increased saleable production by 74,000 tpa or 14%.(d) Overcame legal challenge to the transformation process, set legal precedent and created new age employment contract based on salarized model with selection for redundancy and removal of promotional ladders.(e) Broke entrenched entitlement culture and created the environment for ongoing change and cost reduction initiatives.

I had bottom line accountability for this fantastic business (Cape Kraft) that delivered a high ROI through 100+ highly engaged employees. In addition I had a regional responsibility for the Western Cape area of South Africa and served on the internal Board of Sappi Kraft (Pty) Ltd with 70% of remuneration linked to the performance of Cape Kraft and 30% to Sappi Kraft. . This division operated 4 mills producing ~1 million tpa. Achievements in this role include:(1) Brought the business to nameplate, in 1997, after modernization project.(2) Grew the business as measured by saleable production, cost reduction, quality enhancements and expanded customer base to achieve 20% ROI in 1999.

Tugela Mill - 300,000 tpa integrated pulp & paper mill with 2 fibrelines and 4 paper machines, 1,500+ employees. Achievements in this role include:(1) Modernization of the business through rebuild of three paper machines, recycle plant and fibreline.(2) I was the first Production Manager to run the entire facility. In prior structures, the facility was run by two Production Managers.(3) Optimization of the business structure in which Production Managers took maintenance responsibilities.
