The Small Business Administration is the only cabinet-level federal agency fully dedicated to small business and provides counseling, capital, and contracting expertise as the nation’s only go-to resource and voice for small businesses.The Colorado SBA District Office supports the 700,000 small businesses in Colorado by offering training and resources to entrepreneurs to help navigate starting, growing, and expanding their businesses. I collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals to provide outreach and training on SBA programs and services. We work with a network of SBA counseling and training providers including SCORE, Small Business Canters (SBDC), the Women's Business Center, and the Veteran Business Outreach Center. My position is at the intersection of marketing, branding, and economic development. I perform the communication and marketing specific functions for our office, as well as networking and building meaningful connections with the Colorado business ecosystem. I collaborate on the planning and execution of large and small events designed to educate small business owners, and to build and maintain relationships with Federal, state, regional and local government, chambers of commerce, business and trade associations, financial institutions, educational institutions, and community organizations.

The Office of Resources Revenue (ONRR) is one of the Federal government's largest sources of non-tax revenue. ONRR collects and verifies natural resource and energy revenues due to States, American Indians, and the U.S. Treasury. My position at ONRR operates within the Communication, Performance, and Change Management function of the Chief of Staff. In this role I work on behalf of the Director and Deputy Director by supporting communications functions across an organization of over 500 employees. I am responsible for performing analysis and advising on communication efforts of ONRR's organizational communications team. I help the Executive Leadership Team build shared understanding across the organization through the creation and delivery of meaningful content to internal and external audiences. The purpose of my work is to provide expert advisory, consultative and analytical services in the area of communication and continuous improvement. Retiring as a First Sergeant, I was the senior adviser (Chief of Staff) within the unit, reporting to the Unit Commander (CEO). I oversaw all personnel matters to include personnel readiness, training management, professional development, equipment maintenance, and human resource management of 80 soldiers; I was responsible for all project management, process improvement, creation and management of standard operating procedures across the organization. I managed the senior leadership team in their development and execution of all long and short-range organizational training management, breaking down multi-year training requirements into manageable and achievable monthly goals. I managed the unit personnel evaluation system; maintaining the accurate and timely completion of 80 personnel evaluations. Over 10 years experience creating standard operating procedures and measurable outcomes to reach organizational objectives. I have completed over 500 hours of military leadership and management training, ranging from team development, project management, human resources and organizational management.

I was hired to build a new management and communications position for a foundation managing 2.7 million dollars in assets. In this role, I was responsible for managing the day-to-day business and outreach activities, while executing all internal and external communication activities to members and the public. I developed a brand communication strategy, helping the organization communicate with its 39,000 members, stakeholders, and the public. This included the content creation of all external facing messages on social media, newsletters, website, and Facebook. I managed media inquiries, public affairs, and events across the state. I managed board relations, and grand development and selection of projects, which the foundation supported. I focused on extensive outreach to build awareness of our organization, and programs, creating lasting relationships with donors and stakeholders. I managed volunteers and vendors while executing our annual 5K and large golf events, turning a failing 5K fundraiser into a profitable event. I organized and executed the annual federal lobbying effort in Washington D.C., resulting in scheduled meetings with Congressional and Senate members and staff over a 3-day period. I was regularly tasked with nonstandard projects, building and improving the efficiency of foundation programs and operations. I helped negotiate and develop the logistics of a $60,000 two-year partnership with the Minnesota Lynx Women’s National Basketball Association team, recognizing 34 women veterans over the course of two seasons.

In this role, my daily tasks were focused on maintaining and improving the various modes of transportation within a nine county region in central Minnesota. I was the main point of contact to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), local units of government, legislators, citizens and other organizations. I continually focused on bolstering transportation facilities, options, and resources in south-central Minnesota. Through a planning assistance contract with MnDOT, I provided assistance, information, and technical support for transportation issues affecting the region. While at this position, I oversaw and managed the Region Nine Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC), a committee composed of elected officials and engineers who oversaw the functions of transportation projects in the 9 county region. My biggest accomplishment in this role was initiating the development of a tri county transit agreement between Blue Earth, Nicollet, and Le Sueur Counties.

I was honored with being one of 50, nationwide Wounded Warrior Program Fellows. In this role, I held the title of Veteran Advocate and District Field Representative for Congressman Tim Walz. I assisted constituents with gaining access to government and community resources, services, and benefits. I managed a regular caseload of over 30 complex cases, resulting in over 150 completed cases over a two-year period. This role required extensive brand management, and representation of the Congressman and his priorities. I had two years of extensive relationship development and stakeholder management with key opinion leaders across the district and state. I regularly conducted policy research and analysis, obtaining accurate, relevant and authoritative information to provide legislative and policy insights to a House Veterans Affairs Committee Member. I assisted the leadership team with communication planning and communication efforts both locally and nationally in response to veteran related legislation and issues; regularly advising the Congressman on courses of action in policy development. I developed the ability to review and interpret legislation changes and its effects on current government policies as it relates to veterans services and benefits.
