Microsoft hired me to remove blockers with customer adoption of the data platform including SQL Server, Hadoop (mostly Hive and Spark), IoT initiatives, and data science projects. I started all engagements by listening to the customer's problem. Then I collaborated to architect scalable solutions using new paradigms like Lambda, Data Lakes, and polyglot persistence. We then build "experiments" with short cycles to validate the learning. The goal is an end-to-end solution without the huge capital outlay and risk. Customers use this "experimentation model" as a basis for other internal projects. I also delivered product feedback and experiences and shared it with the Engineering teams to build better products. I was hired to handle the entire data lifecycle for a new construction accounting and estimating package. This replaced legacy offerings, some 30 years old, with hundreds of customers. My focus was migrating customers while reducing overall support costs and constantly developing new feature functionality. The company grew more during this period than ever, even as the construction industry was decimated during the Great Recession.

As a shared resource I was responsible for leading teams through their database implementations. My ability to fix at-risk projects, usually due to performance issues, was so good that I started an entire team focused on performance management. The team’s data lifecycle services worked so well that we participated in client engagements.
