In January 2015 I retired from Superior Essex Inc. (SPSX)., where I served as Chief Financial Officer (and EVP) for 29 years. SPSX is a $2.5 billion global wire and cable manufacturing company, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. SPSX was a publicly traded company (NASDAQ Global Markets) until 2008 when it was sold in a public cash tender transaction, to LS Corp., a $20 billion South Korean industrial conglomerate. SPSX products include: Communications cable, data/electronic/control cable, power cable and magnet wire. SPSX is the largest global producer of magnet wire, which is enameled, drawn copper or aluminum wire used in the windings of electrical motors, power transformers and power generators. SPSX operates 19 factories in nine countries, including US, Canada, Mexico, China, Germany, Italy, Portugal, France and the UK. Superior Essex is among the largest global consumers of copper rod, utilizing more than 400 million pounds of copper annually. During my tenure at SPSX, the business expanded from a single factory to its current scale of 19 factories, and $2.5 billion in revenues. While at SPSX, I was involved in more than 20 global merger/acquisition/divestiture transactions (Europe, China, Canada, U.S.). I was the CFO and managed SPSX through two successful Initial Public Offerings, multiple secondary equity offerings, a broad range of both public and private debt and bond offerings (including multiple public high yield debt offerings, and numerous senior and subordinated debt financings). In 2003, I also served as Chief Restructuring Officer as SPSX successfully completed a Chapter 11 financial restructuring, including a recapitalization of approximately $1.3 billion in senior and subordinated debt. Prior to Superior Essex, I served seven years in public accounting, reaching the level of senior manager with Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG).
