Career Summary: David is the former Director of Telehealth Research and Development at East Carolina University. David started the Telemedicine Center at East Carolina University in 1989. This program was one of the early innovators in telehealth and telecare, human-interface technologies, broadband networking, and disaster response. David led an expert team in the development of an International Telemedicine Training Center, the Distributed Medical Intelligence Conference, Telemedicine practice innovations, and disaster response exercises. He served on an external review team for NASA Telemedicine and the NASA Commercial Space Centers. He has worked with DARPA, TATRC, Strong Angel, and led a national team in biothreat readiness and response at the 2003 Super Bowl at Quallcom Stadium in San Diego. David has provided consultative services to numerous corporations, academia, government, military, and private enterprises. David has been involved in numerous telehealth projects in the U.S., India, China, and Africa over the past 20 years. In addition, David is founder, and former chairman of the program committee for the Distributed Medical Intelligence Conference (www.dmi9.org), an international conference focused on technologies for medical response in disasters.
