Are you familiar with the saying, “if you have the right people on the bus, you can go anywhere”? I am one of the people who should not only be on the bus, but help to find others who should be there; ensure that the bus is in prime working order; plan the route to take and have the acumen to avoid the potholes along the way. I am trained as a doctoral level psychologist, with a PsyD. Yes, I had to complete a dissertation, like all other PhD’s. I also had to complete practicum’s while a student, a full time year long internship and two years post doctoral work before sitting for a national licensing examination. The national exam tests psychologists’ knowledge in clinical, testing, personality, experimental, research, educational, physiological, cognitive, developmental and industrial organizational psychology as well as statistical analysis. In addition I completed specialized training in Children, Family Systems, Neuropsychology, and Psychological Trauma. I have worked in hospitals, in residential facilities, in schools, in the community and private agencies, in prisons, in business, food service and retail, as a line worker and then administrator/manager/director/chief/CEO (whatever you wish to call it). I have started programs/units/businesses repeatedly from scratch; been instrumental in reorganizations; sustained operations of business/programs for years. I have written grants; designed program & business plans; recruited personnel, trained & supervised line workers through professionals; created orientations & CE programs; created EHR & other data management tools; written policy & procedures; developed & analyzed budgets; met accreditation & licensing requirements; & created 360 quality assurance systems, I have partnered with employees, clients, families, advocates, community stakeholders, state & federal government officials. I have published research in scholarly journals, taught undergraduate & graduate students & developed a theory on relationships & cooperation that has been applied in psychology, education, art, architecture, healthcare, & peace.So when your bus, is off track, perhaps I should be on it with you.
