As Senior Counsel, he negotiated several significant legal actions and helped develop federal regulations and enforcement policies. As an ADR professional, he specialized in resolving complex enforcement, hazardous waste, and site/facility-related disputes, providing mediation services in well over 300 matters, involving from 2 to 1,200 parties. A recognized expert in legal and equitable aspects of Superfund remediation requirements and confidentiality and ethics in ADR, he has served on the faculty at Georgetown and Vermont Law Schools. He is a frequent speaker on ADR and mediation at national conferences and events. He has also served as Deputy Director of the Coastal America Partnership, a public-private organization dedicated to coastal and marine ecosystem protection.

Mr. Batson is the Senior ADR Specialist & ADR Counsel for U.S. EPA where he serves as a professional neutral, consultant on effective settlement practice and the use of ADR, trainer, and designer of dispute resolution programs. Mr. Batson has over 30 years of dispute resolution experience spanning all major environmental programs, including 22 years as an ADR professional with a specialty in enforcement, hazardous waste, and site/facility related disputes, and service as Senior Counsel for the Office of Enforcement. An experienced mediator and meeting facilitator, Mr. Batson has provided ADR services in over 300 matters involving from 2 to 1200 parties. He has authored numerous publications, including guidance for federal agencies on mediation practice and confidentiality in the use of ADR. He has served as adjunct professor at Vermont Law School and Georgetown Law School and is a frequent speaker on the effective use of negotiation and ADR in environmental and public policy disputes.

David Batson is Deputy Director of Coastal America, an innovative federal program that combines federal, state, local and private resources and expertise in a working partnership to restore and protect the coastal and marine environment. Through a national network of corporate sponsors and aquatic education centers, the partnership has completed over 1,000 restoration and protection projects and promotes public awareness of coastal and marine issues. In addition to managing Coastal America national staff, David leads Partnership initiatives including coordination of interagency support for the National Ocean Policy and national education and outreach projects.
