Permanent member of staff within the Body Exteriors Team

After the global recession I resumed work for ford in a different department working as part of the on-going product development team. Since that point I have been responsible for a number of engineering releases, checking the technical content of other engineer's and being solely responsible for test plan development.The role gave me an opportunity to work on the new Stage V engine and body facelift for the Transit van. The work was very diverse and I carried out a wide range of engineering activities that allowed me to gain valuable experience working on very different parts such as rubber locking caps, aluminium air-conditioning lines, injection moulded grilles and foam NVH. The majority of the work was dedicated to the front bumper facelift and assigned to me as a full engineering project. I was responsible for this from concept to realisation and now the silver grille and painted end caps are clearly visible on Stage V vehicles in service today.As well as the engineering contact I occupied the role of project manager which involved liaising with the suppliers to discuss timing, commercial requirements, costs and investments and a weekly technical progress report to the chief program engineer to outline potential road blocks & opportunities.I also spent a large amount of time in Turkey for the various manufacturing launch phases. The launch of a new vehicle is an extremely challenging time and any issues that are found are expected to be solved within a very short period requiring initiative and good problem solving abilities.

My first role on graduating from university was with ford motor company working for a large body structures team on the forward model transit van. This gave me an opportunity to learn from the experience of the team around me and gave me direct exposure to suppliers and technical content. During my time with the structures team i developed my technical and management skills, providing support for the senior engineers whilst having full engineering responsibility for the d-pillar sheet metal structure. This involved developing technical drawings, presentations and cad data whilst co-ordinating with the various operational areas (i.e. Stamping & manufacturing) to ensure the parts maintained large scale production feasibility. Project planning and time management were critical to ensuring the success of the program.
