He is also the editor and publisher of the Web site www.travelersjournal.com online since 1996.Bear has spent much of his professional life as a writer and traveler, and he has extensive experience in marketing communications and public relations, particularly in the retail travel industry. Travel editor for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from 1998 through 2008, Bear also pioneered the paper’s podcasting efforts. He is also a published novelist (Keeping Time) whose articles and short stories have appeared in numerous newspapers and national periodicals. In addition to THE TRAVELER’S JOURNAL, Bear has also produced and hosted several public radio series, including "A Century of Heroes" for the Carnegie Hero Fund, and "Dinosaurs and More" for the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.Bear's eclectic resume also includes stints as a travel agent, tour guide, sales executive for a European travel company, and researcher for the Loch Ness Investigation Bureau. Creative ConsultantSelf-Employed Jan 2009 - Sep 2018Since leaving the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in Dec 2008, I have been involved in several interesting projects, including:1. As a fellow at CMU's Studio for Creative Inquiry, (see next entry) I organized and conducted The High Point Pittsburgh Investigation (www.highpointpittsburgh.org) and The Pittsburgh Gigapanorama project (www.gigapanorama.org), which developed an architectural plan to use the one-acre rooftop of the U. S. Steel Tower. I continue to manage websites and social media for both projects.2. I have been working with Charles Goldblum, who was wrongly convicted at age 26 of a murder in 1977 and sentenced to life in prison. In an effort to win his release, among many other activities I edited and published a book, Willful Blindness, and organized a website (www.freezeke.com) and designed and manage social media pages to support this cause.3. Most recently, I have organized the Westinghouse Park - 2nd Century Coalition (www.westinghousepark.org) to provide stewardship for this 10.2-acre city park in Pittsburgh's East End, which has just reached its 100th year. Formerly the estate of inventor/industrialist George Westinghouse, the park has numerous buried architectural artifacts which we will explore.This effort has led to significant developments, both in the park and in the broader subject of Westinghouse himself.

Fellow - High Point Pittsburgh InvestigationCarnegie Mellon University Studio For Creative Inquiry Jan 2009 - Jun 2015The Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry in the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University provided me with a fellowship to investigate the possibilities of transforming the one-acre roof of the U. S. Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh into High Point Pittsburgh, a publicly-accessible, solar and sustainable facility. The investigation has resulted in a feasibility study, architectural design, and virtual simulation of the proposed facility, all available at - www.highpointpittsburgh.org
