I am Professor of anthropology at Université Libre de Bruxelles, preceded by an appointment at the Central European University (Hungary). I hold a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology from Brussels (2002) and have been a doctoral visiting student at Manchester and Oxford. In 2001-2003, I was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University. My main area of geographic experience and expertise is West Africa and Southeast Asia. I have conducted ethnographic research in Guinea-Conakry, Burkina Faso, Gabon and Laos. I have several areas of theoretical expertise, but mostly the anthropology of cultural heritage, , memory and transmission as well as the study of gender and sexuality.
