System Design Authority for NAS, the NATS operational Flight Data Processing system. Accountable for the system's design and in-service performance, including the Safety performance. I also took on accountability for the New En-route Centre (NERC) and Military systems. Accountability transferred to a new Service Design Manager role from April 2020, whereupon I took on the role of consultant to the Service Design Manager. As a result of the impact of Covid-19 on the aviation industry, I was furloughed from June to October 2020, and took Voluntary Redundancy in November 2020.

Managed the newly formed Operational Information Systems Programme, adding accountability for TOMS (Tactical Operational Management Systems) and TLPD (Traffic Load Prediction Device) enhancement projects whilst also retaining my role of managing changes to NATS' systems to support ICAO changes to Flight Planning in 2012 (FPL2012) and the move to a centralised European Code/Callsign Allocation system (CCAMS).Delivered FPL2012 & CCAMS into service and managed the programme of TOMS and Arrival Manager (AMAN) projects.During this time I was the Project Manager for a number of projects of 1 – 2 year duration and budget of circa £2-5M. Typically projects delivered enhancements to existing Air Traffic Control systems to comply with future strategy or regulations.Initiated the Data Storage & Analytics project – a £5m project Introducing Big Data Technologies to NATS, leveraging NATS Air Traffic Control Data to provide Business Insight for Strategic and Tactical Planning. This Project sits within a portfolio that delivers the next generation of Air Traffic Control within NATS, utilising a service oriented architecture.

These included resilience builds to improve the reliability of the NAS system, interfaces to new systems (e.g. Electronic Flight Strips at Prestwick - EFPS - and Arrivals Manager - AMAN), the implementation of EU Implementing rules for Reduced Vertical Separation Minima (RVSM), the adoption of 8.33 kHz channel spacing for Air-Ground communications and Changes to Wake Vortex categories.

Also heavily involved in HCS peripheral replacement programmes, such as Flight Strip Printer (FSP) replacement, Input/Output Terminal (IOT) replacement and airport Flight Data Entry & Printout system (FDEP) Replacement. Continued involvement in the provision of HCS related Terminal Control subsystems. Managing all project phases from requirements determination to transition to operational service, and responsible for all aspects of the Work Packages, including budgets, contract management etc.I provided design consultancy during the initial system design phases of the SPRINT (Peripheral Adapter Module (PAM) Replacement) project, & developed my software skills during this period, producing PC & Mainframe based emulators to enable development testing of HCS peripheral systems without the need for HCS resources. Responsible for the implementation of Quality & Safety Management systems within the group, I was also involved in the NATS Quality and Safety Management Working Groups, who provided direction and oversight for the adoption of formal Quality and Safety management systems in NATS.
