Extended the scope of the CRUSADER casting software for designing casting running and feeding systems to aluminium based alloys for use in Rolls Royce aero engines. Helped train Rolls Royce staff to use it.Used MAGMAsoft casting Finite Difference simulation program to predict the filling and solidification of castings.Helped design and build a prototype gauge which successfully measured the straightness of a rotating rod in real time as it exits a straightening machine.Wrote the control software for the above gauge.Produced the BNF CRUSADER program which drastically reduced (by approximately 75%) the time taken to place feeders and runners on castings made in important copper base alloys. Worked on projects which established rules for designing dies to produce sound gravity die castings.Transferred the results of these projects and experience gained therein to foundries under the Technology Transfer scheme sponsored by the DTI.Successfully adapted a device which had been designed to measure the levels of hydrogen dissolved in molten aluminium for measuring the levels dissolved in the copper based gunmetal alloys.
