I was a member of the Senior Management Team leading one of the most successful NPR News stations in the country. The station serves an estimated audience of nearly 400,000 listeners every week -- and those listeners are remarkable. They're dedicated, passionate, fully engaged and consistently help make WUNC number one in the Raleigh market.I oversaw content creation, acquisition and distribution. During my tenure this included WUNC News, WUNC Music, The State of Things, The Story with Dick Gordon, The American Homefront National Reporting Initiative on Veterans and Military Issues, WUNC's After Innocence Series, The People's Pharmacy, WUNC's Summer Youth Reporting Institute, Back Porch Music and podcasts that include WUNC’s Songs We Love (and the Come Hear NC series), Dom Flemons’ American Songster Radio, Stories with a Heartbeat, Chris Stamey's Occasional Shivers, Fort Bragg Stories, The Civilist with Steven Petrow and Postcards from Madison County. I also coordinated The Back Porch Music on the Lawn Concert series booking 16+ roots music bands a year for the free outdoor series. As Program Director I participated in fundraising activities including on-air pledge drives, production of audio listener testimonials and grant writing. During my time as Program Director WUNC secured multiple large, program specific grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, AJ Fletcher Foundation, Goodnight Educational Foundation, GlaxoSmithKline Foundation and others.I managed a department with 25+ creative, inspired journalists who taught me something every day. It's the best job in public radio.
