United Coalition East Prevention Project (UCEPP) is a non-profit based in Downtown Los Angeles. The organization works to reduce or eliminate, if possible, drug and alcohol use amongst the houseless population in Skid Row. As a Community Engagement Specialist, I assisted in this vision by disseminating information on the dangers of drug use (currently Fentanyl leads in drug overdose deaths) and maintaining relationships with other prevention providers for collaborative efforts. I also helped to mobilize residents, both houseless and low-income, to become active participants in their city government by notifying them of upcoming city council meetings they should attend and encouraging them to provide public comment on a number of issues, such as safer parks, 24-hour public restroom access, Narcan accessibility, and an increase in healthy food outlets.
