Current• Lead on all aspects of Intellectual Property (IP) of 23andMe’s consumer genetic testing business, including all IP related to software, algorithms, data processing, health diagnostics, precision-based medicine, bioinformatics, biotechnology, computer-implemented methods, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), large language models (LLM), genetic test kits, customer reports, and the 23andMe website. • Determine and set the patent strategy for all aspects of the patent portfolio including utility and design patents. Grow patent portfolio from 19 (16 utility and 3 design) to 134 (113 utility and 21 design) issued patents. • Present patent/IP updates to the Executive Team and, Patent Steering Committee. • Design and conduct freedom to operate/clearance analyses, patent landscape analysis, and prior art searches. • Develop and implement Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Large Language Model (LLM), and Open Source Software (OSS) policies. Includes handling confidentiality, privacy, compliance, regulatory, and IP issues. • Build and oversee copyright program for compliance with copyright laws and copyright application filings including data use rights and related issues.• Oversee all aspects of IP for 23andMe’s therapeutics business including large molecule and small moleculeprograms (2/2018 – 10/2018 and 10/2024-current). • Lead as IP subject matter expert for all transactional work, collaborations, and mergers and acquisitions. Negotiate third party patent acquisition and licensing transactions. • Lead on all IP due diligence, including the VGAC SPAC transaction, 23andMe’s acquisition of Lemonaid Health, and the $300M F-1 financing from GSK.• Manage IP litigation including preparing and serving as internal lead for patent and trademark litigation between 23andMe and Ancestry.com (Case No. 3:18cv-002791-EMC).
