As the Director of Education at Huntington Learning Center, I work alongside my Executive Director on family conferences, school teacher outreaching, and individualized program tracking for current and incoming students. Furthermore, I work with my teachers on general scheduling, curriculum modifications, and best teaching practices and methodologies to uphold our mission statement of giving every child the best education possible. I have also helped increase our student enrollment count by 150% within a year, streamlined daily work operations with an administration calendar that is centralized around conditional formatting, and trained teachers who have helped their students improve their reading and math skills by at least 1 grade level.

As a student teacher for Madrona K-8 in the Edmonds School District, I was initially working as an intern for my cooperating teachers in a 4-6th grade split classroom. As an intern, I began with leading morning and closing meetings, and eventually got to teach ELA and math lessons sporadically. In the middle of the school year, I began taking a greater involvement with teaching 4-5th grade ELA by leading daily activities. When the school year shifted to an online format due to COVID-19, I took full control of the ELA and math curriculums by creating daily classwork modules with a variety of software, including but not limited to: Zoom, Loom, and Google Suite Applications. All of my learning modules were designed with student equitably in mind, as my modules offered sequenced parts that my struggling students benefited from, along with enough depth for my highly-capable students to engage in higher-order thinking.

During my time at LEAD Prep, I initially started as a co-teacher for a middle school classroom. As the co-teacher, I would assist the lead teacher with classroom management and student support. When the new school year started, I then became the lead teacher of a middle school math classroom at another campus. In addition to taking on regular co-teaching duties, I was also responsible for designing a variety of math curriculum resources that included: digital flips, quarterly projects, and supplemental learning activities. I also created and implemented a school-wide individualized learning system that has helped my students’ math assessment scores go up by an average of 19%.

During my time at Mathnasium, I worked with students on homework and developing general math skills using the official Mathnasium curriculum. As a Level 2 instructor, I was able to assist and collaborate with my Center Manager in tracking student progress and implementing student improvement plans. As a math instructor for Dartmoor School, I was tasked with teaching high school level mathematics to a variety of students, most of whom had autism, ADHD, and/or anxiety. Despite the initial learning struggles many of my students presented at first, nearly all my students were eventually able to pass and receive high school credit for their schoolwork. I also used my math pedagogy and curriculum building experience to update course syllabi and create applied math projects for all high school math classes. I also was the head curriculum designer for two Career and Technical Education (CTE) electives.

As a math instructor at Best in Class Education, I assisted the staff with teaching K-12 Mathematics and English to a group of 6-8 students. I was also a private math tutor for all levels of math up to AP Calculus AB. To help provide additional student support, I compiled math notes that were publicly accessible by teachers and students alike. While students could look up information they needed to recall, teachers could use these notes as a supplemental teaching tool as needed. In addition, I assisted the management staff with recruiting new students for the 2016-2017 school year and was a math development staff member. As a math development staff member, I played a role in revamping the Best in Class math curriculum.

As a student intern for the University of Washington’s Riverways Education Partnerships, I assisted the staff with recruiting undergraduate students to volunteer at Title 1 schools. I also worked with a team of 12 people to create a fundraising event that would help fund transportation services for students to use. I also was responsible for creating quarterly data assessments to help the Riverways staff improve partnerships with Seattle Public Schools and other affiliated organizations. The assessments I created were also used for decision-making in improving the quality of professional development seminars for potential Riverways tutors.
