Dr. Carroll has 30+ years of experience in the aerospace industry. He specializes in multidisciplinary topics which include spacecraft propulsion, high energy lasers, gas discharge lasers, spacecraft dynamics and control, thermal management, radiation, radiation heat transfer, genetic algorithms, chemically reacting and dissociating non-equilibrium flows, and supersonic nozzle flows. Dr. Carroll has developed commercial software packages for a Genetic Algorithm and a specialized fluid dynamic laser program BLAZE Multiphysics™. He is a Fellow of the AIAA and SPIE, and served as the Chair for the AIAA Plasmadynamics and Lasers Technical Committee from 2011 – 2013. In his Visiting Professor role at UIUC he led his students to claim 1st place in the AIAA Undergraduate Space Design Competition in four consecutive years 2012 – 2015. He has published over 150 papers and holds 11 patents and patents-pending in the multidisciplinary fields of space propulsion systems, high-energy discharge and gas lasers, genetic algorithms, optics, fluid dynamics, and laser physics.
