Responsible for estimating, building, and delivering custom integration applications and plug-ins for Retail Pro 8 and 9, establishing department policies for development and deployment, and providing technical expertise to sales people and technical support staff. Developed a set of custom components that talked to a proprietary API published by Retail Pro to improve speed and reliability of application development. This later became a selling point of the company and helped promote our team to prominence among Retail Pro dealers for custom requests.Developed RPro4Web, a stand-alone application to import and export various sets of data to and from Retail Pro. This was originally for synchronizing inventory and orders between the desktop POS and online stores using a variety of data formats including CSV, XML, spreadsheets, SOAP web services, PHP scripts, and direct database manipulation of MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle. Later, RPro4Web was expanded to export many sets of data for a variety of reasons, including shipping integrations, tax reports, and for importing into loyalty programs.Sometimes, customers needed custom applications or plugins written for supportive or related purposes. These requests led to some work being done in C# or VB. I also built stored procedures, batch files, utility programs, and scripts for customers as needed.Because we had so many custom applications with occasional updates, all relying on both internal and third-party libraries, I built an automated build server to recompile every library, plugin, and application every night. This helped significantly to reduce surprises when a customer wanted to add a feature to an old application--I could make sure all code was kept up-to-date.
