About David Cramer

As the managing editor at the Institute of Mennonite Studies in Elkhart, Indiana, I seek to elevate voices from the margins and to publish stories that make a difference. Recently I edited and published Proclaiming the Good News: Mennonite Women's Voices, 1972–2006, which was recognized by the State Library of Kansas as one of the 2024 Kansas Notable Books. With a background in theology, ethics, and ministry, I have honed my own storytelling voice in pieces written for the Christian Century, Sojourners, Anabaptist World, and other popular and academic publications. My book (with Myles Werntz), A Field Guide to Christian Nonviolence: Key Thinkers, Activists, and Movements for the Gospel of Peace (Baker Academic, 2022), tells the stories of twentieth-century peacemakers André Trocmé, Hélder Câmara, Óscar Romero, Dorothy Day, and many others.

    In my role as managing editor of the Institute of Mennonite Studies at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary (AMBS), I oversee the day-to-day operations of one of the longest-running seminary-based publishers in the United States. Working with authors from the United States, Canada, and Ethiopia, I have guided 12 issues of the 96-page international journal Vision to publication and increased its online presence from just over 1300 article downloads in 2018-19 to over 17,000 in 2023-24. Collaborating with authors, editors, designers, and printers, I have managed the publication of book projects in history, theology, and biblical studies and successfully negotiated a new book series in theology and ethics published by T&T Clark.
