David is a fire safety investigator; he specialises in the application of fire safety science and engineering to the investigation of fires and building defects.As a fire investigator, he specialises in investigating fire development, the performance of fire protection measures and systems during real incidents, and the regulatory aspects of performance in these areas. His specialism has supported numerous investigations in understanding why disproportionate loss of life or damage to property has occurred. Major fire investigations he has worked on include the Penhallow Hotel fire, the Atherstone-on-Stour warehouse fire, the Royal Marsden Hospital fire, Cutty Sark fire and the Lakanal House fire.In relation to building defects, David has carried out inspections and advised on a wide variety of buildings, including blocks of flats, hotels, hospitals, schools, commercial and industrial premises. He has advised on the impact of defects in passive and active fire protection, and the implications of these defects for the fire strategies of these buildings.David is an experienced expert witness in criminal, civil and coroners’ courts. He has been involved in both prosecution and defence of cases under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, as well as murder, manslaughter, arson with intent and reckless arson cases and has given evidence at Crown Court. He has also provided assistance in matters relating to liability and quantum for damages in civil disputes as well as identifying opportunities for recovery. His experience in civil proceedings includes giving evidence at the High Court, Supreme Court, and as part of Mediation and Arbitration proceedings.David is a Chartered Engineer registered with the Engineering Council by the Institution of Fire Engineers.
