As a project leader I assisted in planning and delivering the first year engineering course ENGG1200. This course combines both theoretical and practical learning experiences in a group project setting where students gain insight into engineering best practice. This was the first time the course was delivered.I had significant input into the conception and delivery of the four student projects. During the semester I led one of the group project (180 students) including selecting/supervising tutors and writing/conducting assessment. I particularly enjoyed working in this dynamic environment with a bright and enthusiastic team.

CRCMining is Cooperative Research Centre established with funding from the Australian Commonwealth Government and jointly funded by several major mining companies and mning equipment manufacturers. CRCMining's vision is to transform mining globally through industry-driven research, collaboration and innovation. CRCMining's mission is to deliver step-change innovations to existing, planned and future mines that maximise productivity, and enhance resource utilisation and sustainability.In my role as senior mechanical engineer I have managed several of my own projects, contributed to other projects requiring mechanical input and mentored several junior mechanical engineers. My main project involved using a gamma/density logging sonde to interpret the structure of a coal seam prior to mining. This involved working with a multidisciplinary team including a geologist, geophysicist, electrical engineers, mining engineers, drillers and the site safety manager. The resulting interpretation showed that the seam was clear of any major structures that would have interfered with mining.

Tasman Warajay designs, manufactures and installs transfer chutes for coal mines and coal handling facilities. I was involved in the concept and detail design of these chutes, their structural support and some actuated components. All modelling was done using SolidWorks. We made extensive use of Solidworks folded sheet metal tool to minimise fabrication time and cost.

Camco Engineering is a large engineering manufacturer in Perth. They provide specialist machining, welding and fitting services to the mining, oil/gas and energy sectors.Initially my main role was in the detail design of large valves for a high temperature/high pressure process application. I also managed several projects to manufacture some large pieces of equipment for the mining industry and also installed several second hand machining centres in our workshop.Working in the office immediately adjacent to the workshop let me experience first hand many issues involved in manufacturing, and gave me a good understanding of how design decisions impact on manufacturing time and cost.

This involved speaking to many experienced people on site, collecting their ideas for improving productivity and reducing costs, analysing these ideas, proposing the best ideas to management for approval and tracking the results of these projects. A few months after I started this job there was a significant failure at the plant, resulting in production interruptions for several months. As a result many contracts including mine were cut.
