I was a point of contact mechanic on a large military contract for wheeled vehicles.We were tasked with maintenance repairs for foreign military sales. Repairs include replacement engines, transmissions, chassis rails, body mounts, armour replacement and inner cab repairs.There was also a great deal of paper work e.g order request forms and quality check forms.

During my employment at a small plant hire company I would service, repair and maintain a wide range of plant including excavators, dumpers and gen sets and a variety of small construction tools e.g. Whacker, Hilti, Makita, Honda, Husqvarna and Stihl equipment as well as this I was responsible for customer service, repairs and delivery and collections. We also had a fabrication shop where I would repair plant equipment e.g. excavator buckets and I would also help with the other side of the business. which I helped fabricate and weld horse stables using mig welding and arc welding techniques.

Whilst working for Meldrum’s I was required to service and repair a wide range of garden machinery from chainsaws to large ride on tractors. At Meldrum’s we specialise in the sales and service of POLARIS ATV’s, STIHL, MTD, STIGA, VIKING, ATCO, QUALCAST, VICTA, ROVER, HUSQVARNA, KAWASAKI and BRIGGS AND STRATTON gardening equipment in which I had to use special tools and machinery e.g. cylinder and sole plate grinding machine (for cylinder mowers) and certain techniques to set cylinder mowers cutting cylinder, also to diagnose faults in 2 stroke engines e.g. pressure and vacuum testing engine casings and carburettors and also deal with technical issues and procedures for a wide range of ground care equipment, I also have experience with EFI engines. I also used welding equipment, a 10 ton press and metal work lathe, chain sharpening, files, grinders and ultrasonic cleaning.

I was part of a team of mechanics responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of plant machinery. Duties included scheduled servicing, repairing and replacement of engines, transmissions, track chains, idlers, final drives, sprockets and hydraulic drive units. General welding and fabrication tasks on excavators, loading shovels, dumpers, bulldozers and graders. Special tools used include torque multipliers, burning bottles, measuring equipment, pullers and lifting chains.

Whilst working with Gap Group I was tasked to service and repair a variety of small plant equipment e.g. 9 ton site dumpers, vibrating rollers and excavators, concrete equipment, compaction equipment, Stihl cutting equipment, gen-sets ranging from 1Kva to 40Kva and a host of electrical hand tools mainly Hilti and Makita.Checks and repairs had to be performed and recorded on all equipment before customers receive equipment and on safe return of equipment, any damage, repairs or services were recorded in our system. I was also on call for temporary traffic light and sign lighting breakdowns SQA Approved.

Germany

I was contracted in by M&E to work alongside U.S military mechanics to coordinate major servicing and repairs to speed up the deployment of the unit I was assigned too. Our role was important in the deployment of the unit. I was based in U.S Military Bases - Ray Barracks in Friedberg and Rose Barracks in Vilseck in Germany to support the U.S military. I was responsible for servicing and repairing military vehicles such as 8 Wheeled HEMMITS, 5 TONS trucks and HUMVEES, gen-sets, water purification systems along with M1/A1 and Bradley armoured support vehicles.
