This was a tremendous once-in-a-career opportunity to create a news channel from the ground up: My responsibilities included creation of programming for both domestic and global audiences, digital content, large budgets and personnel management, tech. strategic planning-- all built on a foundation of excellent journalism.
Created Anderson Cooper 360 where over 5 years we produced nightly prime-time programming, many high-profile network specials and countless hours of breaking news coverage and expanded the brand with digital and x-platform initiatives.
A focus on programming and excellence of story-telling: Created an produced a big-budget re-boot of Diane Sawyer's weekly primetime news magazine...And created and produced dozens of specials each year-- So many we nearly doubled the number of program hours we'd been scheduled to do each year. I placed much emphasis on story structure and episodic storytelling.
Nightly News had long-been the third-rated national newscast when I was brought in to turn it around. It meant throwing out many of the old conventions and starting with a blank slate: Changed format, story selection and structure, writing and how we marketed the program. Within 18 months Nightly moved up to first place-- where it has remained most of the time since then.
