With over 28 years of experience in the education sector, I am the executive director of Washtenaw Educational Options Consortium (WEOC), a collaborative organization that offers multiple educational programs in Washtenaw County, Michigan. I specialize in designing and implementing innovative and transformative educational programs that utilize diverse platforms, such as early middle college (EMC), international baccalaureate, and hybrid online schools. My goal is to change the paradigm of public education and move it from a credit-based, time-centered, and extra-curricular-focused model to a skills-based, non-time-centric authentic educational model.Through my work at WEOC, I oversee one of the top early middle college programs in Michigan and the country, with over 275,000 dual enrollment credit hours since 1998, and the highest college completion rates in Michigan with ECA graduates completing college at rates that exceed 75% with Black ECA graduates completing college at rates about 75% which is 700% higher than the state of Michigan. I also run the 2023 Niche #1 high school in Michigan, the Washtenaw International High School. An IB diploma program servicing 540 students. As founder and president of Middle College Consultants I assist in creating and launching EMC programs in Michigan, Alaska and other states. Additionally, I have received multiple professional recognitions and awards for my leadership and contributions to the education sector, such as the initial State of Michigan Department of Education Early Middle College Lifetime Achievement Award (2023), the Teacher Powered Schools – National School District Partnership Award (2022), and the Engineering Society of Detroit Institute David A. Skiven Leadership Award (2016) in addition to numerous state, local and federal recognitions and awards.
