Dayton news editor, 2007-2008Operating out of a news bureau in Dayton, this position required generating news stories and photos from Dayton and the northern areas of the archdiocese, editing and rewriting submitted news copy, maintaining news sources, assigning stories to freelance writers and photographers, coordinating with the managing editor in Cincinnati to ensure smooth copy flow and managing bureau editorial staff.

Primary responsibilities included processing emergency and non-emergency calls, providing emergency medical instructions to callers over the phone, dispatching fire and police units via radio and relaying information to responders. I served as the public information officer for the agency.

My work as a stringer on this daily metropolitan newspaper included writing stories primarily involving breaking news, police and fire department issues, court cases, suburban meetings and high school sports. The stories regularly appeared on A1 and section fronts. Byline count exceeded 750.

As a beat reporter for the Hamilton Journal-News, I wrote news and feature stories for the daily newspaper and also the weekly Pulse-Journal newspaper. The coverage and included West Chester and Liberty townships, the Lakota Local School District and the 57th Ohio House district. Stories regularly appeared on A1 and section fronts.
