Laboratory capability development is an important part of my role and I have… Show more I am a Senior Research Fellow with the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology Centre (PMTC) where I work on industry directed projects on behalf of the members. The main areas of focus have been Dry Granulation of pharmaceutical powders, particularly Roller Compaction, with an emphasis on Continuous Production and Lyophilisation processes. I mentor Masters students and Research assistants working on the projects. Laboratory capability development is an important part of my role and I have instrumented a roll compactor to allow computer feedback control and real-time data acquisition of the process parameters. In addition I have developed of a data acquisition system of multiple temperature and humidity measurements within a freeze drying chamber; enabling precise real-time monitoring of the different stages of the drying process. I have a particular interest in the science behind the compaction and tableting of pharmaceutical powders. I have also been awarded funding to start and manage industrial research projects in the medical devices and polymeric extrusion industries. This entails embedding Master’s degree students within the industry, working independently, and using proper scientific rigour to find lasting solutions to industrial problems. Show less

Role, responsibilities & achievements:New product & process development researcher, responsible for developing new products and processes which add value to the standard range of products.• New metal powder & diamond extrusion process for a new line of products. • My team and I developed a novel metal powder & diamond grit encapsulation process using modified pharmaceutical processes & equipment, allowing expansion of a Diamond Impregnated Segments business up to $2M revenue in 2 years. • In 2010, I was awarded the “Global Innovator” prize for my development & innovation work over the previous years• 21 patent applications on the products and processes I have invented & developed since 2004. • I designed new coatings on diamond grits, then developed and optimised the production processes for these new coatings. In 2012, coated diamond accounted for 35% of diamond grits revenue. Overall, my Value Add products accounted for >40% of total BU revenue. Show less
