Oversee the Pharmacy Lock-In Program, behavioral health utilization management and behavioral health coordinators for Medicaid acute, Long Term Care and Medicare Advantage lines of business. This includes behavioral health placement in skilled nursing facilities, assisted living centers/facilities and behavioral health group homes; court ordered evaluation and court ordered treatment; bridge medications; reinsurance; behavioral health consultation; training and education to internal and external stakeholders. I am regularly called upon as a subject matter expert in the field of behavioral health and the opioid epidemic and regularly asked to assist with RFP responses. Additionally I am responsible for policy and procedure development and update, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations and rules, new program development, addressing gaps in care and unmet needs for members. I have been working to address controlled medication misuse and abuse, particularly around high risk utilization. A program I developed to address this issue has been endorsed by the Arizona Rx Misuse and Abuse Coalition as a best practice program in 2016. Additionally, I developed a process for care managers to educate members, at risk for opioid overdose, on Naloxone, how to use it and provide them with Naloxone kits. Since taking over the oversight of the Pharmacy Lock-In program it has shown consistency in reducing unnecessary emergency department utilization and the use of multiple prescribers.

Oversee the daily functioning of 2 outpatient clinics (which I assisted in opening), oversee the clinical operations of 3 adult group homes for Long-Term Care members with behavioral health needs, and 1 adolescent assessment and intervention residential program (which I assisted in opening), provide clinical and administrative supervision to 14 staff members, audit records to ensure quality standards are met, ensure evidenced-based practices are used daily and provide training to staff on a regular basis, manage to a budget of $1.5 million, perform individual and group therapy, conducted Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA), provide family and community education, served on committees for developing new programs, and ensuring continued quality standards and compliance with state and federal regulations.

Oversee the daily functioning of the SMI clinic, clinically and administratively supervise 12 clinicians, as well as administrative staff, ensure the use of evidenced-based practice on a daily basis, coordinate discharge planning for the entire agency for people leaving an acute hospital setting back to the community, develop and update policies and procedures, provide ongoing training to staff, audit files to ensure quality standards are met and compliance to state and federal regulations are met.

I held various positions in behavioral health conducting individual, group and family therapy for individuals haivng substance use disorders and mental health conditions. I also taught independent living skills to individuals with an SPMI and people with traumatic brain injury (TBI). During this period I also assisted with double blind research experiments in the area of date rape and misperceptions in social interactions under the influence of alcohol.
