To do this, we have developed#Versius, a next-generation surgical robotic system.David is a Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in the management of medical product developments and the design of medical devices, IVD and drug deliver devices from initial concept through to manufacture. He is also very familiar with the regulatory requirements necessary for the development of a medical product. David’s work experience includes:•Vice President of R&D and operations, led the company in developing the first fully automated, patient connected, blood gas analyser for the ICU and OR. This involved leading 30+ scientists, engineers, project managers in a very multidisciplinary program covering mechanics, electronics, chemistry, software and regulatory. •Project managed the product development of a diagnostic disposable device (excluding assay) which is part of the Alere i Flu diagnostic system from concept through to launch see www.alere-i.com•Project managed a large multidisciplinary surgical product development, with manufacturing in China. The medical device holds an endoscope and with head movements from the surgeon and pressing of a foot pedal the device moves the endoscope in 3 dimensions see www.freehandsurgeon.com •Project managed a number of other medical projects at concept stage: electro mechanical eye surgery device, small mechanical drug delivery device and dry powder inhaler •Technical project leader developing an insulin pen. Managed the technical element of this project from initial concept through to prototype manufacture. •Mechanical design leader on the following non medical product development projects: -Two different water meter projects featuring innovative gear design: managed a design team in Hong Kong from the UK, FEA and manufacture in China. -A laser rangefinder: ergonomic, water proof to 4m, tightly packaged optical product, high precision. •Designed and developed a number of bipolar electro-surgical devices while working for Gyrus Medical from concept through to manufacture.
