Research Assistant/LecturerPerth College Uhi Sep 2013 - Jun 2014Perth, United KingdomCombining some of my previous role with the Centre for Culture, Heritage and Tourism with my new duties, my current role with Perth College UHI includes, but is not limited to the following:* Lecturer – working on the BA Child and Youth Studies programme, I am currently co-tutoring two modules on the online based programme, Literature Review and Legislation and Childhood. . As co-tutor I work alongside and support the module tutor, providing feedback on the discussion boards and working directly with a group of 20 students.Alongside the above duties, I also provide dissertation supervision to students on the MSc Interpretation programme. Working directly with the students I assist them with their literature review, methodology and results, along with offering support with structuring of their submission.* Personal Academic Tutor – As PAT on both the MSc Interpretation Management & Practice and BA Child & Youth Studies programmes, I currently work with nearly 70 students, providing them with ongoing support, additional to that given by their module tutors, to support the students in their personal and academic development.* Research project – I am currently engaged in two research projects, the first examining the retention and persistence of FE students aged 16-24 at Perth College UHI. This research follows on from previous, small scale research that has been carried out within the college, but with greater focus on the young people the recent Scottish Government policies, including Opportunities for All, and the Commission for Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce Interim Report. The second project is using the practices of the Early Years and Child Care team in teaching NC's and SVQ's in local secondary schools and the transitions between Curriculum for Excellence and SCQF level 7 qualifications, in line with QAA Enhancement Themes. Both of these research projects are due to finish in June 2014. -
Research Assistant/AdministratorCentre For Culture, Heritage And Tourism, Perth College Uhi Oct 2012 - Sep 2013Working closely with the Centre Director, the role of Research Assistant/Administrator is a varied one. The Centre has a number of different functions, primarily as a Centre for Excellence within the University of Highlands and Islands with four main focus areas: research; knowledge exchange; professional studies; and professional development.As part of both the research and knowledge exchange focus areas, the Centre works on outside tenders, employed by a range of organisations to utilise the skills of the core team and associates. As part of the core team, my role in this type of work is varied and includes but is not limited to initial research into projects and completion of paperwork as part of the tendering process; carrying out desktop research into the subject(s) of the project; liaising with both the client, the wider team and other key stakeholders; design and development of research tools to be used in projects; collection and analysis of both primary and secondary data; and assisting the other members of the team as necessary. The administration aspects of my job are also varied, and include the administration of the online MSc programme the Centre offers, acting as a first point of contact for both current and prospective students, providing information regarding the course; administering students assessment work; and preparation of all paperwork for the exam boards. I also administer all financial aspects of the Centre, liaising with the college financial department to ensure that all financial paperwork is up to date. The final main aspect of my administration role is to support the team members, particularly the Centre Director, with the arrangement of meetings, travel and accommodation arrangements and the booking of rooms when required. I am also currently working closely with the Centre Director on the updating of the Centre web space and development of social media outlets, and the strategies that will be employed over the next 12 months.

Administrative VolunteerWild Scotland Aug 2011 - Oct 2012Perth, United KingdomAs a volunteer with Wild Scotland my duties are varied. . I have been directly involved in the organisation of the Wild Scotland conference, which takes place in December including writing press releases, assisting with the writing of the delegate pack and other communications promoting the conference. Alongside the work on the conference I have been involved in a range of communications outputs for Wild Scotland, including articles and posts for the website, and using social media, specifically Twitter and Facebook, on behalf of Wild Scotland. Since being with Wild Scotland, I have promoted the use of social media, not only as a marketing/promotion tool, but also to inform the followers of what is happening within the organisation.Alongside the above duties, I have also been involved in creating and managing databases, whose primary use was for creating mail merges, both the online mail tool, MailChimp, and also through Microsoft word or publisher programmes, in conjunction with outlook. I have also been involved in general office duties including answering the phone, welcoming visitors to the office and any other duties as required.
