Deputy Class Underwriter, Liberty Specialty MarketsResponsibilities include dealing with all aspects of commercial motor insurance, maintaining relationships with key senior brokers and clients, overseeing the company’s portfolio in Scotland, Midlands, South-West and London, and reviewing portfolio performance. In addition, I am also responsible for relationship between the business and the Big Five brokers, as well as underwriting both conventional and non-conventional structures. Since joining, the fleet portfolio has grown from £30m to £50m.

2008-2013: UK Motor Director, AIG UK LtdResponsible for the £100m UK commercial motor portfolio for the business, my duties included overseeing account performance, managing the regional underwriters, implementing strategy, and daily interaction with Senior Management based in New York, Europe and London. In addition to this, I was part of the AIG Liability Executive which was responsible for leadership and strategy setting and implementation of key underwriting initiatives for the business. I also led the management of twenty-five UK underwriters, overseeing their account performance and providing key tools with which to measure their regional portfolios. Whilst at AIG, I built a full management information system which was critical in managing the portfolio, and this was acknowledged as providing a key measurement tool for the business. During this time and under my leadership, my team also won the prestigious Insurance Times’ Motor Underwriting Team of the Year award.

London - Tower Place

1996-2008: Head of UK Motor Placement, Marsh UK LtdOverseeing and managing the £160m commercial motor portfolio for the business, as well as managing the London motor placement team. I also maintained key relationships with underwriting directors and sizeable clients, and dealt with differing programme designs from conventional to substantial self-insured structures. During this time, I sat on the UK March Placement Executive, setting and implementing placement strategies. 1987-1996 Senior Placement Broker, Willis UK LtdInitially joining as a Junior Fleet Broker, I established key insurer relationships and client contacts. Over time, I was exposed to more technical risks including retro-rated policies and deductible deals. After being promoted to Senior Placement Broker, I was responsible for the day-to-day responsibility of our regional offices and forging close relationships with key producers. During this time I was heavily involved in the overseeing of critical new business tenders.
