Agnew Gold Mine

Agnew gold mine is an underground operation located on the Wiluna-Norseman Greenstone Belt in the gold fields region of Western Australia. The mine geologist role involved:• Diamond drill hole planning and reporting. Grade control drill hole plans completed from the start at hole design through to the end at drill plan sign off.• Diamond drill hole logging and sampling.• QAQC of assay results.• Contractor and stakeholder liaison. Working with drilling/mining contractors and alongside mining engineers, geotechnical engineers, surveyors and upper management. Regular drill rig inspections and safety meetings were also conducted.• Underground duties included face mapping/sampling, ore drive direction and grade control of stopes/stockpiles.• Mining software Datamine was used extensively in drill hole design and the wireframing of lithological contacts, structures and ore parcels.• Personal projects were set and completed, including data analysis projects to understand drill hole deviation and magnetic susceptibility. • Databases and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets were used throughout the role.• Writing of technical reports, memos and departmental procedures.• Contractor invoicing. • Training of new employees to a competent level.• Mine site responsibility for the department whilst on nightshift.

The exploration geologist role involved:• Diamond drill core, RC and air core logging and sampling.• Geological interpretation of several orebodys based on grade from drill hole assays and geology from drill hole logging.• Wireframing of lithological contacts using Datamine and Leapfrog.• Assisted in the identification of new drill targets based on remote sensing and geochemical data.• Monthly diamond and air core drill rig inspections.
