Throughout my time with Boots I progressed through the ranks from Customer Assistant to my highest role as Assistant Manager in which I was required to juggle all aspects of the store. I needed to maintain a broad perspective of the business by analysing and responding to weekly reports and figures, deciding how best to implement new ideas in order to motivate staff, drive sales and successfully meet company targets. The attachment to my application outlines some of the ways I applied my creativity within my stores. I briefly departed the company in 2013 when I chose to explore my design skills and my ambition to better utilise my creativity. In my role at Prontaprint I was able to apply my creative eye working as a Graphic Designer, involved in the design and production of various publicity material and signage, including banners and display stand promotion. My return to Boots was initially motivated by the realisation of missing the ‘buzz’ of working for a large company, the in-store energy and how much I enjoyed making a difference to customers. Feeling that my future career does not lie in retail management (despite my competency), in 2014 I returned in a ‘lesser’ role while I reviewed my options. I am currently working as a Dispensing Assistant, a role that requires a high level of organisation and accuracy. I have decided that a corporate/support role within a retailer like Boots would enable me to build a career in an environment that plays to my interests and experiences in design, graphic communication, marketing and above all creative thinking - not to mention retail knowledge. I love working for Boots but I feel I could contribute so much more to a company and to the customer on a greater scale.
