David Gu is the Principal Lawyer and Founder of ProActive Legal. He is also an Accredited Specialist in Immigration Law by the Law Society of NSW and a Notary Public.David began his career in Australia immigration law in 2005 when he joined at the Migration Review Tribunal and the Refugee Review Tribunal (MRT-RRT) (now a division of the AAT). He then joined the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (currently the Department of Home Affairs) in late 2005 and worked in various roles over 4 years period. His roles there included assessing and decision making of visa and citizenship applications; and as a Legal Officer providing internal legal advice. In 2010, David joined a reputable law firm led by an Accredited Specialists in Immigration Law as a Solicitor and was later promoted to an Associate.In 2013, David founded ProActive Legal.David is highly experienced in judicial reviews and have successfully represented number of clients in court as solicitor-advocate. His advocacy and wisdom in immigration law has also allowed him to often win cases without a court hearing. For instance, he has successfully challenged visa cancellation decision made by DIAC (now ABF) at airport by making persuasive submissions which resulted the Minister conceding to losing the case well before court hearing. Another case worth mentioning is Singh v MIAC [2012] FMCA 145, a well-known and highly cited and referred to case among the migration profession which David represented as solicitor-advocate and succeeded.Over the years, David has either himself, or with a highly capable team he lead, successfully assisted countless number of clients in resolving some of the most challenging and unimaginable complex migration problems. As long as there is a solution, you can bet David would know it. David's solid experience and knowledge in immigration laws, policies, processes and procedures are indispensable assets in providing strategic and practical solutions.
