While the seed of the idea behind Shirley’s Prepackaged Crafts is my wife’s the bulk of the implementation has been mine. We sell the crafts via homeschooling conventions and our website. We use a WordPress site with checkout services provided by Google Checkout. I am the primary bookkeeper using QuickBooks Pro. I set up the entire inventory including inventory assembly parts and assembly items for the accurate tracking of cost of goods sold. I market the company via our website, email marketing (Constant Contact), Facebook, Twitter, and two national magazines specifically targeting our homeschooling market. Advertising copy and artwork is created by me. All of the craft patterns are hand drawn by a contracted artist. I then “retrace” them using Adobe Illustrator. I use the USPS for shipping and for the last two years have labeled and applied postage using Stamps.com. We have been adapting to our market and our customers’ needs by growing our services and products. It is paying off; we have seen a 70% growth rate every year for the past 3 years.
