I've been in the Electrical Industry in New Zealand for coming up to 15 years now. The majority of this time was spent working for PCI Electrical where I started as an apprentice to eventually managing the day to day operations of a team of 30-40 staff.Once qualifying as an electrician, I pursued further training and obtained my qualification to become a registered Electrical Inspector.My drive for wanting to learn more about the industry and support others lead me to become an apprentice assessor. Part of this role was to provide support learning and guidance or other apprentices within the company looking to obtain their qualifications also. I eventually took this a step further and became a night school tutor for ETCO. Here I presented theory and regulations classes for apprentices looking to complete their qualification. This was part time in addition to also being employed at PCI at the time.2020 was a big year for many people, I also seized the opportunity with the down time we had and took up a part time diploma in Construction Management with the Open Polytechnic. I am on track to complete early 2023 and this has been a great tool for honing management skills I have learnt to date on the job, whilst obtaining a formal qualification .In the end of 2021, I was presented with an opportunity with Solutionz Electrical to apply my skills to the sector of Industrial Electrical Automation. As well as opening my eyes to a new way of thinking, I have also been brought on to assist with growing the business through my previous management experience.Currently I am a Controls Engineer at Direct Control Limited. This is another very exciting role for me where I am hoping to implement me previous years of experience in the trade whilst also enhancing my personal development.
