Dave is an experienced General Counsel, with qualifications in both engineering and law. Dave has over 25 years' experience in construction law (15 years in law firms and over a decade in house). Dave started his career as a litigator (>5 years managing major project disputes), transitioned to major project tenders (government/contractors) and then moved in-house to CPB. Dave is the General Counsel for the Spark Joint Venture who are delivering the North East Link Project ($12 billion, with an annual turnover of ~$2 billion). In this role, Dave has been part of the senior leadership team and responsible for:- establishing the legal function- establishing the governance framework- leading procurement >$5 billion- managing upstream and downstream claims - acquisition of project specific precast facility- supervising five (5) senior and junior lawyersDave is known as a strategic problem solver. He works hand in glove with teams to ensure a pragmatic approach is taken. He loves working in a dynamic environment with strong characters and tight deadlines. Dave is highly skilled in navigating critical issues with key stakeholders and often presents to executives and boards. He is proficient in managing legal resources/budgets, rolling out legal training and implementing risk management strategies.
