• Spearheaded the upgrading of healthcare analytics for a hospital system using Agile/Scrum methodologies to build aligned incentives for oncology and cardiology physicians, evaluate electronic data warehouse vendors, improve data governance, develop data-mart options for decision makers in clinical departments, and measure the financial impacts of surgeons’ implant selections.• As program manager managed teams preparing system conversions of six dozen applications to accommodate a hospital system’s reorganization.• Mapped revenue cycle system weaknesses and proposed operational workarounds for a national health plan to meet heavy anticipated enrollment growth through state and federal insurance exchanges.• Designed program and project management methodologies for health care organizations’ PMOs. Refined a tool for project managers to assess Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for selecting among hospital IT system options.

* Led, as ICD-10 IT Program Director, preparations for conversion to ICD-10, including mapping ICD-10 impacts across over one hundred applications and remediating and testing 52 clinical and revenue cycle applications. Key applications included McKesson Star and Horizons, as well as 3M HDM. Introduced automated testing, using SmartBear's TestComplete, to the organization.* Refined financial model for hospital IT portfolio planning. * Assessed IT tools to support a hospital's EPMO.

* Reviewed ICD-10 code conversion issues jointly with over 80 business units across Kaiser Permanente’s health insurance and health care organization, then collaborated to customize solutions for units including actuarial, benefit design, research, reporting and analytics, data warehouse, and specialized clinical and logistical application teams.* Designed and presented analysis of the financial impacts of ICD-10 conversion, particularly resulting from “DRG-shifts,” on Kaiser Permanente. * Working closely with a developer and Kaiser Permanente’s end users, designed an online application to simplify analysis of ICD-10 code conversions. Modeled approaches in Excel using advanced macros.* Examined Kaiser Permanente’s automated claims processing decisions to expose problems in transitioning from ICD-9 to ICD-10 through a temporary backward mapping solution.* Coordinated monthly and annual financial planning among project managers for Kaiser Permanente’s PMO responsible for 5010 and ICD-10 application conversion. Developed application to ease financial planning processes and avoid data re-entry into five separate financial and status updates.

* Created an online planning application used by over 30 hospitals and a dozen physician groups to track progress toward “Meaningful Use” requirements. * Assessed IT project management methodologies for a major academic hospital and initiated an online project tracking system for their program management office. * Mapped clinical and administrative information flows in a California hospital system's finance and billing departments, the psychiatric hospital, and the home care unit. Proposed future technology improvements and evaluated potential economic returns. * For an Internet wellness coaching application, managed development of their automated voice product. * For four Internet startups, defined the business models, refined plans, established partnerships, and generated resources for system and market development. The ventures include a Health 2.0 company, two social networking sites, and a web-based life insurance company.* Crafted a business plan to promote expanded use of an online tool for enrolling Medicaid and other public health program applicants. * For a two hospital systems, authored strategic IT plans to communicate the CIOs’ visions for investments in clinical systems. * For a west coast health plan, surveyed inside and outside the company, then leveraged insights to develop plans for improving sales channel effectiveness.* For an east coast health plan, assessed new markets and facilitated senior executives’ planning to expand the managed care plan’s unusual partnership arrangements with physicians. * For the Norwegian Trade and Technology Office, helped build Silicon Valley to Norway links in nanotechnology, super computing, medical device entrepreneurship, venture capital and biotechnology.
