NSW State Super is one of Australia's largest public sector superannuation funds. The fund is closed to new members and provides Defined Contribution benefits alongside Defined Benefit pension and lump sum benefits. As Senior Investment Counsel I work with the internal investment team to help guide the investment of this fund to meet a number of unique challenges, some of which will become increasingly common as the Australian superannuation industry continues to mature.

NSW Trustee & Guardian's role is to act as an independent and impartial Executor, Administrator, Attorney and Trustee for the people of NSW. It also provides direct financial management services and authorisation and direction to private financial managers. The Independent Investment Advisory Committee is responsible for advising and assisting the CEO to direct the investment of assets on behalf of clients.

Sydney University’s Student Managed Investment Fund has been set up by the Sydney University Business School. Students run the Fund with academic and industry oversight. Dual objectives for the Fund are to provide finance students with hands-on equity analysis and portfolio management experience as well as to fund scholarships for disadvantaged students. The Investment Committee, comprising a group of university staff and external investment professionals, has been established to provide overall governance as well as to provide ongoing practical feedback, guidance and coaching to the students.Some past students have said that this course was the best they have done at university...congratulations to Andrew and Jiri for all they have done to make this a great learning experience for students!

At the time I left Sunsuper, Australian Catholics had experienced relatively poor investment returns. I joined the Board and chaired the Investment Committee. Over the subsequent 6 years I inspired the Fund to move from a single investment option default, Conservative Balanced, to a lifecycle approach implemented on 1 May 2018. The investment team led by Michael Block took a leading role in the design and implementation. The new LifeTime One product automatically adjusted each individual members’ investments annually, on their birthday, effectively creating “cohorts of one”. Subsequently this fundamental structure has been copied by other funds.The underlying components used within LifeTime One ranked 7th of 48 , 7th of 50 , 3rd of 25 and 3rd of 47 funds in their respective SuperRatings surveys for the one year to 30 June 2022. The previous default option, Conservative Balanced, recorded top quartile results in its SuperRatings survey for the 1, 3, 5 and 10 year periods to 30 June 2022 and a second quartile result for 7 years.

Bulit and managed the investment team in Sydney that is reponsible for investing assets of Sunsuper, which is now Australian Retirement Trust.Peer aware Balanced option was well above the SuperRatings median over each of the 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 year periods to June 2015 and the team I built has continued to produce strong results.

Manage the team of investment consultants in AustraliaGained new clients, improved profitability and integrated Towers Perrin team into Russell after takeover. Also improved global coordination within investment consutling practices.

Mercer's first CIO, appointed to manage the investment products established in Australia prior to establishment of Mercer Global InvestorsImproved performance of options so that each was above benchmark and above median by the time I left Mercer. Established global group in Mercer to discuss coordination of manager of manager initiatives across different geographies

Head of investment consulting team in Sydney.Grew team from 1 to 25. Won new clients, grew revenue and profitabiity while keeping staff turnover low.

Seconded to Swiss Bank susidiary SBC in Sydney Australia to manage a number of investment portfolios including a large closed end fund listed on the American Stock Exchange. SBC subsequently merged with UBS.The First Australia Prime Income Fund for which I was responsible was awarded Lipper's Performance Achievement Certificate for top performing closed end bond fund in the United States

Portfolio manager of large bond funds listed in Canada and the US as well as diversified portfolios. Seconded to SBC which subsequently merged into UBS Asset Management. EquitiLink itself subsequently was bought by Aberdeen.The First Australia Prime Income Fund for which I was responsible was awarded Lipper's Performance Achievement Certificate for top performing closed end bond fund in the United States

Hired as manager of fixed income and currency and moved into management of industrial shares after the 1987 crash.Earned performance fees for Schroders from strong absolute and relative performance over the period of the 1987 crash.

Managed fixed income portfolios for large taxable and tax-free insurance funds. Provided analytical DCF support to property team. GIO was taken over by AMP.

Worked in superannuation administration. City Mutual subsequently became Capita before being taken over by MLC
