Here’s the thing, or at least a “thing”. I would like to continue exercising my brain for the benefit of a worthy effort. That worthy effort is what I am looking for, as I have never been able to turn off my brain.Unlike athletic prowess, which I had through age 55 or so, mental acuity is not necessarily impacted by age, until much later in life. In fact, a greater book of knowledge allows for greater reference in the making of decisions.I have had three distinct areas of experience in the practice of law, each of which built upon the preceding effort: Tax Planning Lawyer, Commercial Litigation Lawyer and General Counsel for an engineering design company with international customers and fabricators for its leading edge power generation equipment. I learned forensic accounting in the Tax effort, which I applied in the litigation effort, then combined the knowledge and skill sets developed in order to become successful at resolution of commercial disputes in the US and on site in locations that included (not limited to) Brazil, Germany, Israel, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, South Korea and China.I learned to negotiate by doing it, and, I have an innate approach to negotiation that I have never seen applied by anyone else despite 35 years of practice. I have been literally stopped upon leaving a room by those on my side who had just seen me work for the first time and asked, “What was that?” in reference to some “move” they noted while I did my thing in the room. In each instance, the “move” was not planned in advance, merely an instinctive reaction to the immediate circumstances as evidenced by the discussion, applied in the moment and which had never been applied before (or since) by me. In fact, I had to ask them what they saw so that I could see the same thing they did. I can recall the surprise question in Japan, Germany, China, Israel and by co-counsel upon leaving courtrooms in the US.If you are responsible for a company that has annual revenue of $50 million or more, or a non-profit, which does good things, perhaps I can help you solve problems that just seem to drag on and on. Included in my skill set, as applied, is resolution of issues within the executive suite, between people that have different incentives driving their view of issues.
