The Cleveland Division of Air Quality traces its origins to the Bureau of Smoke Abatement which, in 1882, was charged with protecting the health of Clevelanders by controlling smoke and odors. Since this time, our methods have evolved and our jurisdiction has expanded, but our main mission remains faithful to this founding premise. Throughout Cuyahoga County, our engineers, technicians, and scientists ensure that air pollutants from more that 5,500 facilities are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. We monitor levels of air pollutants throughout the county and constantly strive to make our air the cleanest in the nation. Our overall goal has remained the same for more than 130 years — to improve citizen’s health and environment through cleaner air.

Independently performed regulatory development and environmental research projects as a consultant under contract to U.S. EPA. Concurrently performed technical work on multiple projects and managed all aspects of this small business.
