Wrote cycle-accurate software models while investigating architectural design options to hardware- accelerate compression algorithms including “Deflate” and “Bentley & McIlroy Long Common String Compression.” Identified opportunities to increase compression ratios beyond those of established compressors while maintaining data format compatibility. Automated the collection and analysis of the top 500 most popular web sites for content type, compressibility, and availability of server side compression mechanisms, and authored an internal technical report disclosing my web content analysis.

Automated microcode sequence generation to find hardware bugs and race conditions in the Intel IXP2850 Network Processor cryptography units. Rewrote Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) key inversion C routines to run on processors of differing endianness. Achieved a 25% performance boost over an already optimized MD5 microcode implementation through creative use of architectural constraints. Worked with another intern to lay foundation for a high-speed, multi-precision integer multiplier on the IXP microengine.
