I'm an educator with more than a decade of experience helping students develop skills and enthusiasm necessary to become productive and successful life-long learners.Today, I teach Social Studies in a diverse, urban middle school. It’s challenging and rewarding. In the past eight years, I’ve taught THOUSANDS of students to research and use the skills of an historian to uncover stories and mysteries that lie at the heart of historic events. I’ve helped more than 300 National History Day students advance to compete at the State level- and have coached 16 of these all the way to National Competition!In 2013, I was nominated for the “History Channel Award” by the Minnesota History Center, and was selected by Education Minnesota as a Top Ten finalist for Minnesota Teacher of the Year.In 2015, the National History Day organization selected me as one of only 15 Teacher-Scholars to attend the Albert H. Small “Normandy: Sacrifice for Freedom” Institute, working in collaboration with high school students to research and build memorials to fallen WWII soldiers in France.My teaching “superpowers” are creativity and flexibility. I’m a problem-solver and I enjoy finding new solutions to old riddles. The more unique the approach, the better I like it. I’m a team builder and a communicator who knows how to create enthusiasm and groundswell. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and am nearing completion in both a Master of Arts degree in Education and Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies from Bethel University and Bethel Theological Seminary in Arden Hills, Minnesota. I am currently licensed by the State of Minnesota to teach 5-12 Social Studies.
