David holds five undergraduate and graduate degrees across the fields of Physics, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering, each while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. He is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at Baylor University, graduate program director for Baylor's Materials Science and Engineering program, and founded Baylor’s ISO 17025 test lab. He helped to establish Baylor’s PhD program in Mechanical Engineering and established the PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering. In his career David has been awarded over $19,200,000 as in externally sponsored research, of which he is the lead PI on $14,300,000 of those funds with an additional $2.5M of internally supported tuition cost matching. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, more than 100 refereed national and international conference articles, has twenty patents with fifteen patents pending, and twelve FAA 8100-9 Statements of Compliance to Airworthiness Standards, all in a program that until fall of 2014 did not offer a doctoral degree. His team specializes in next-generation material systems from the sub-micron to full-scale aircraft to oil and gas well mitigation. His expertise crosses physics-based constitutive modeling, composites characterization, and non-destructive testing and inspection. His group is known for their expertise in numerical modeling and characterization of polymer systems and are pioneers in high-resolution non-destructive testing methods. David currently serves as the conference co-chair for the SPE Automotive Composites Conference and Exhibition for the third year. David is also the founding and current faculty advisor for the Baylor Chapter of SPE, which has won first place as SPE Chapter of the year two of the last 4 times it has been awarded.
