This diverse background, along with his hands-on approach, proves highly valuable when advising clients on significant disputes, offering implementable case-specific solutions.This background helps him assess a broad array of case-specific facts and associated law, and then execute: examples being a case dispositive claim construction, an inoperable suggestion of how the prior art operates, or a strategy that combined invalidity, damages and the lapse of time.A partner since 1996, he is located in the Silicon Valley office and serves as the head of the Silicon Valley IP Group.Representative Experience:>> Served as lead counsel representing Inphi Corp. in a patent infringement suit originally brought by Netlist in the Central District of California and which concluded after Inphi’s >$10B sale to Marvell in 2020. Netlist had accused a JEDEC standard memory buffer module chip of Inphi of infringing three different patents related to various aspects of rank multiplication. The case involved three related inter partes reexaminations that were each appealed to the Federal Circuit, resulting in the invalidation of or amendment to all of the original claims.>> Defended SiTime in a patent infringement suit filed by VTT Technical Research Centre in the Northern District of California involving MEMS resonator device technology, including arguing the case-dispositive term in one of the first virtual Markman Hearings, that led the Court to enter its own judgment in favor of SiTime. Successfully defended SiTime the appeal to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.>> Lead counsel defending Rigetti Computing against two IPRs brought against one of its foundational quantum computing patents by IBM, with the PTAB determining not to institute the IPR proceeding based upon the Patent Owner Statement.Honors & Awards:>> The Legal 500 U.S., Patent Licensing & Transactional and Patent Prosecution (2014 – 2015)>> PLC Which Lawyer?, Intellectual Property—San Francisco & Silicon Valley (2010 – 2012)
