About David Johnston
I trained as a solicitor with the Scottish Government and worked in immigration and criminal law before moving to work directly with Ministers in the Education and Environment and Climate Change portfolios. I then managed a team in external relations with responsibility for links with China, Canada and Japan. I have experience of rapid response work through a stint in the Scottish Government's health and social care Covid Hub and in my last role I headed up UK and International Relations for FSS, working to improve our domestic and international relationships. I am now the FDA trade union Convenor for the Scottish Government branch.I have experience in legal and policy analysis, policy development and stakeholder engagement. I have an interest in improvement methodology and have run a number of projects to improve responsiveness and knowledge management in various teams.
