Understanding how things work and what function things serve has been what I've been drawn towards throughout my education and professional experience. Whether it was working with Lego pieces as a kid or now with the more intricate "Lego" pieces of industry, understanding the details of how they fit and work together is what I am able to effectively learn. This knowledge allows me to troubleshoot why problems are occurring with a product, how to make most efficient use of a product's components, and to communicate details to both internal and external customers so that they might better understand the synergy among these components.Attention to detail, however, is not as useful when other interpersonal skills are not also present. I am a team-player and enjoy helping people understand what they need to which can include learning things alongside them as well. In addition, effective verbal and written communication skills tie directly into this so that product knowledge is efficiently conveyed. If I do not know an answer to a question I will seek one out but also strive to understand the problem so that I can grow as a more effective resource for others both inside and outside the company.In my current position as a Design Engineer, I perform applications engineering for custom orders. I work with customer service, production, and my fellow engineers to ensure all details are considered when making changes to the norm that are requested. Additionally, I am assigned design projects to improve our products so that we can offer expanded options to our customers. These projects have helped me hone my organization and documentation skills. Lifecycle maintenance engineering is part of this as well. Fixing small issues that benefit the efficiency of production's work some times feels the most rewarding of all as they often provide immediate feedback and thanks.While in school for engineering, my senior project was planning a sample-return mission to the Moon. This required my team to tackle many different aspects of engineering that go into a space mission and having them work together. These included propulsion, power supply, sample collection, and communication. We then needed to communicate how all of these systems worked together in reports as well as presentations. This project was very beneficial looking back on it as it provided a sort of micro-experience of the full team-based, multi-faceted design process that exists at any company.
