I was employed by JDA Wokman as a contractor Mechanical Engineer assigned to the Ok Tedi Mining Ltd’s Kiunga Dewatering plant’s Reliability & Condition Monitoring Team. The positions main role involves providing engineering support to Maintenance and Operations teams at OTML’s Kiunga Dewatering Plant in accordance with Ok Tedi Mining Ltd and Industry safety, environmental, quality, safety principles, and corporate values & strategies. Key responsibilities*Write up Safe Work Procedures (SWP’s) for all Planned Maintenance tasks for the Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Steel Fabrication maintenance disciplines.*Review of all Kiunga de-watering plants critical equipment standard jobs or Maintenance Tasks in the Ellipse Computerised Maintenance Management System. *Review of all Kiunga de-watering plants critical equipment's condition monitoring methods and their alarm limits. *Carry out Condition monitoring tasks; “Vibration Data Collection and Analysis, Scheduled Oil Sampling and Analysis” and Non Destructive Inspection methods; “Ultrasonic Normal beam – Thickness testing and Magnetic Particle Inspection – Wet method”.

Supervise and manage staff, contractors, assets and fuel stocks to achieve our main objective. Our main objective is to supply quality fuel when required in bulk to all of InterOils major customers in the National Capital Distict, Central, Western, Gulf and Southern Highlands Provinces. Our objectives were carried out in line with the Industries and National HSSE, Quality, Maintenance and Human Resource standards. The Bulk fuel loadings included major road tanker deliveries for all InterOil service stations in Port Moresby, all Aviation fuel loadings for Jacksons International Airport, all major commercial customer fuel loadings and bunker fuel loadings for marine vessels. The Bulk fuel loadings also included tanktainer fuel loadings for InterOil fuel depots in Gulf and Western provinces, and major commercial customers in the Western, Gulf and Southern Highlands Provinces.

The training involved a competency Based training program on operational and maintenance tasks/jobs carried out at a fuel terminal/depot, exposure to Downstream Marketing & Finance, Downstream Fuel and Lubricant supply system, and two month’s as a Terminal supervisor at the InterOil Products Ltd Kimbe Terminal. The training covered various systems that are vital in managing a Fuel Terminal or Depot. The systems include; HSSE systems, Maintenance (Preventive & Breakdown) systems, Staff training systems, Fuel & Lubricant stocks monitoring system and Engineering Project management.

I completed a 10-week industrial training program as part of my Final Year requirements. In this time I have gained hands on experience in the maintenance of turbo prop aircraft. The various tasks I was involved with include engine maintenance, maintenance planning, and airframe maintenance.

I undertook a part time job as part of my exposure to the workforce/Industry which lasted 12 weeks during the school holidays. In this time I have gained hands on experience in steel fabrication. I was involved in various projects, one of which involved the building of a new Cordial/Fruit Juice bottling production line.
